Holidays in Somerset

Think of Somerset and you find variety of countryside that includes Exmoor National Park, the Mendip Hills, the Quantock Hills, the Blackdown Hills and the Somerset Levels and Moors.
Look to the coast and you find some of the highest sea cliffs in England offering dramatic views over the Bristol Channel at their peak between Porlock, and Lynton and Lynmouth.
Explore Somerset further and history is not far away with places such as Wells in the east, historic Dunster Castle, Farleigh Hungerford Castle and towns such as Frome and Crewkerne.
Taunton is the county town with elements dating back to Saxon Times. The heritage trail guides you round this pleasant town and for entertainment the Brewhouse Theatre is worth a visit.
Somerset is also famous for its carnivals. From September carnival clubs build their floats across the county and choose a theme. Many decorate their floats with thousands of light bulbs making for an impressive spectacle and the largest illuminated procession in the world.
Visit in the summer and head to the otherwise quiet village of Pilton, and find it transformed when the Glastonbury Festival comes to Somerset!
